Virtual conference on the rule of law

Make or Break the Rule of Law in the European Union

We are facing a crucial moment for the European Union as a Community of Law in this autumn. Will the Council and the Parliament succeed in tying the New Generation EU funds with rule of law requirements under German Presidency? How will the European Commission design its new “Universal Review” for all Member States? And what will happen to the ongoing Article 7-procedures with respect to Poland and Hungary?
The German branch of the European Federal Movement (Europa-Union, Verband Brüssel), logistically supported by the German Foreign Office, cordially invites you to debate these questions in a high-level online-conference on the rule of law in the European Union on Thursday, 15 October at 15:00, with

  • Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice
  • Mihal Simecka, Member of the European Parliament (Renew Europe), Rapporteur in the LIBE Committee
  • Christian Meinert, Counsellor, Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU
  • Prof. Angelika Nussberger, former Vice-President of the European Court on Human Rights, moderated by
  • Prof. Frank Hoffmeister, President of the Europa-Union, Verband Brüssel

After an introduction by the Commissioner and short initial replies by the panellists, we will engage in a discussion with the audience. Every participant, who wishes to take the floor, is kindly asked to put comments/questions in writing to the moderator.
